IRN Special Programming

The Illinois Radio Network is proud to present programs to its affiliates that are both informative and entertaining.

ELECTION NIGHT: When there are statewide elections and primaries, we provide twice-an-hour reports with vote totals, reports from candidate headquarters and commentary and analysis. Election night coverage airs at :15 and :45 past each hour, from 7:15 p.m. to 11:45 p.m. Additional reports will be aired later if necessary. The reports are typically four minutes long.

Election Night Coverage – at 00:15 & 00:45 past the hour from 7:15 p.m. – 12:15 a.m.

Primary Night Coverage – at 00:15 & 00:45 past the hour from 7:15 p.m. to (TBA)

ILLINOIS NOTEBOOK: This 90-second feature examines the people and issues making headlines in the state. The feature takes items which might not make it into a serious news story and highlights the human side of the state’s decision makes.

EYE ON ILLIONOIS: We speak with statewide newsmakers in this 30-minute long-form show. Eye on Illinois gives listeners a chance to hear a more in-depth examination of stories of importance throughout the state. This show helps our affiliates fulfill their public affairs requirements.

Wednesday newscalls (10:10 a.m. & 1:10 p.m.)

SOUNDS OF ILLINOIS: Each year, IRN takes a look back at the year’s top stories in this 30-minute program. All of our reporters and many of our affiliates contribute the stories that held our interest throughout the year. Stories which may have dropped from the top of the news pile are updated and given a new perspective

ILLINOIS BYWAYS: This popular program has been an IRN staple since 1993, exploring why Illinois is one of the country’s leading tourist destinations. Dave Schwan takes listeners to the state’s many historical sites as well as its lesser-known locations. The 90-second weekly feature also focuses on Illinoisans involved in preserving history or improving their communities.

THE YEAR IN SPORTS: IRN’s sports staff and our affiliates help us take a look back at the biggest sports stories of the year throughout Illinois, including everything from prep to professional teams.

IRN PREP REPORT: The prep report gives an in-depth look at the accomplishments of high school athletes and their coaches. The five-minute program was designed to give our affiliates an option for halftime of local games during the football and basketball seasons, but the stories are not limited to those two sports. Other featured topics have included track and field, wrestling and student-athlete conduct.
