Full-Time Reporter - January 8, 2020
The Center Square/Illinois Radio Network is seeking a full-time reporter with at least 2 years of radio reporting experience, and a strong interest and understanding of Illinois politics and public policy.
Illinois Radio Network is a state-focused reporting division of The Center Square, a nonpartisan and nonprofit media outlet.
This full-time reporter will produce at least two radio and print stories for the network each day.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Covers actions of Illinois state government and statewide matters of public interest
Interviews public officials to learn more about public policy issues.
Conducts additional research into policy issues
Interviews “ordinary people” to show how public policy decisions made in Springfield affect their lives.
Reports the news in the following formats: audio, print, video, social media, online.
Works collaboratively with other TCS/IRN reporters and editors
Writes in a clear, concise and compelling manner.
Delivers news on the radio, online and in print.
Uses resources, research, and analysis to form a narrative to report the news.
Has the editorial discretion to report the news events of the editor’s choice.
Conducts investigative reporting activities in support of independent news reports.
Develops news stories through ongoing inquiries.
EXPECTATIONS:
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher.
Solid background in journalism.
Experience reporting for print, web, radio, or television outlets; established record of getting published or being broadcast.
Strong writing, research, editing and verbal communication skills.
Familiarity with state policy issues.
Ability to uncover original/breaking news stories.
Self-starter mentality and ability to work independently.

This part-time reporter will work up to 29 hours each week and produce radio/print stories for the network as well as record freelance reporters’ work.

Conducts additional research into policy issues
Interviews “ordinary people” to show how public policy decisions made in Springfield affect their lives.
